Biophenols

Biophenols are phenolic compounds of plant origin. Their antioxidant properties are thought to be beneficial to human health as well as important for food preservation. The biophenol rich nature of the Mediterranean Diet is considered to be a key aspect of the health advantages it offers versus a traditional western diet. Olive oil, red wine, whole grain cereals, legumes, fruits and vegetables form the foundation of the Mediterranean diet. The exact mechanism of how biophenols do their good work is not yet completely understood.
