Oleic acid

Oleic acid is a beneficial natural fatty acid found in large amounts in olive oil (70-80%). The word oleic comes from the latin word oleum or oil. It is a monounsaturated fat that can lower ldl cholesterol(bad) and may increase hdl cholesterol(good). The oleic acid is also thought to be responsible for the blood pressure lowering effects of olive oil.
